Any problems with VS2008 & VB6 on same PC?

Postby genomon on Fri Sep 10, 2010 9:46 pm

Getting a new laptop soon. Since it will officially be owned by work, I can't get too picky; all I know so far is it will be an HP 64-bit with Win7 OS and I believe 4G RAM. I would like to install VB6 along with VS2008. Anyone know of conflicts in doing so? Currently I have VB6 only on my workstation, and VS2008 on the "old" laptop.

I used to have VB6, VS 2003, and VS 2005 all together with no problem, currently have 2005, 2008, and 2010 without any problems.

No worries.

There is some weirdness when you try to install VB6 on a win7 machine, so I encourage you to google it first so that you are aware of the problems. I think the biggest trick is to run the setup as administrator. I also think you need to run the VB6 ide as administrator too, or else you have an un-fun experience.

I run VB6, 2003, 2005 and 2008 on my box with no issues. You should be fine...

Oh, just noticed that it's a Win7 OS... I'm running XP (still)... Sorry...

Personally I recommend you run a Windows XP VM so you don't have to worry about compatibility.

XP mode on windows 7 for the most part allows you to run the apps seamlessly if you're into that kind of thing. You can use it as a normal VM as well. It is a big download though!
