Nice one, MS Word

Nice one, MS Word

Postby Remou on Thu Jun 02, 2011 10:49 am

My pages were looking weird in Word 2007 - there was no top margin. "Oh well,", I say - I am given to talking to myself - "that is easy enough to fix, add a top margin." Nope, the margins are fine. "Maybe page view?", nope, it is in print preview and any amount of clicking around the views does not help. "Bad template?" aha! I am finally in luck, the old .dot template from the previous version is perfect! So I save that, with a little messing, as a dotm (macro enabled) template. Open Word ... arg argargargg. "Okay, how about dotx?" Perfect! So I get rid of all the templates except for the 'good' one. Open Word ... *sob*. "Very well, I will try a repair.", open Word, you guessed it. Reinstall? I am getting mildly homicidal at this stage. I finally go to Help, "Well!", I hear you exclaim, "finally!", but what would you have chosen to search for? I was looking for something completely different and stumbled across 'Show White Space'. "My problems are solved!" I think - I have given up talking to myself at this stage, because the bad language is too much to take so early in the day - I click into Word Options, Display as instructed but 'Show white space between pages in Print layout view' is ticked! I am heading into three or even four exclamation mark territory at this stage. In desperation I untick it, and tick again. This worked, and is still working, but I am not. I am ranting on LTD.

Nice one, MS Word.

I am pretty sure I have run into this before, I just assumed it was a "feature" in the display.

Not that it annoys me less than any other less-than-useful, unannounced, cant-be-turned-off feature. MS has trained me to expect a lower level of expectations...
