When no-one answering is good.

Today I read a post in one of the forums I regularly visit. The writer confessed to being a complete beginner but had made a real effort to solve his or her own problem. The regulars were not answering the question, but nudging the writer on with hints to solve more of the problem, and it occured to me it was a sign of respect. The regulars were willing to treat this writer as a more advanced learner, rather than simply answering the question and denying the writer an opportunity for self-development.

Sometimes when you are not offered help and other people are, it is a compliment. Sometimes it is not.

George and Denis used to do this to me fairly frequently at a forum which shan't be named. Probably why I'm so messed up now :P
